Audrey Brown: “FAHP Thanks Senator Brandes, Committee Members for Advancing Critical Senior Protection Measure Today”
Tallahassee, Fla. – Protect Florida Seniors Now, an education and advocacy effort led by the Florida Association of Health Plans, Inc. (FAHP), today released the following statement from FAHP President and CEO Audrey Brown regarding Senate Bill 626 by State Senator Jeff Brandes (R-St. Petersburg) that was passed today by the Florida Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Environment, and General Government.
“We thank Senator Jeff Brandes and members of the Florida Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Environment, and General Government for approving this good public policy proposal today.
“SB 626 is a prudent legislative fix to address uncertainties in the long term care insurance market. The bill expands the guaranty fund safety net in order to protect Florida seniors by preserving their access to the benefits of the long-term care insurance policies they currently may hold, as well as hold the state harmless in the event of future insolvencies.
“We look forward to continuing to engage on this critical senior protection issue during the 2019 session, as it continues to advance.”
Protect Florida Seniors Now aims to educate Floridians on the importance of enacting long-term care legislation that is specific to Florida, but consistent with the national settlement agreement and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners model act.
