Protect Florida Seniors Now Applauds Representative Fischer, Members of House Ways & Means Committee for Passage of HB 673

Tallahassee, Fla. – Protect Florida Seniors Now, an education and advocacy effort led by the Florida Association of Health Plans, Inc. (FAHP), today released the following statement from FAHP President and CEO Audrey Brown regarding House Bill 673 by State Representative Jason Fischer (R-Jacksonville) that was passed by the Florida House Ways & Means Committee.

“We applaud Representative Fischer and the members of the House Ways & Means Committee today for advancing HB 673, a measure we believe is critical to the protection of seniors in the State of Florida.

“Utilizing the national model act as guidance, this legislation ensures a more equitable distribution of the financial burden across industries by broadening the assessment base to include both life and health insurers that would cover any future insolvencies within the long-term care insurance market.

“With the significant senior population in Florida, we believe lawmakers are rightfully acting and moving forward to protect our seniors during the 2019 Legislative Session in order to bring stability to the marketplace.”

Protect Florida Seniors Now aims to educate Floridians on the importance of enacting long-term care legislation that is specific to Florida, but consistent with the national settlement agreement and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners model act.  To learn more, visit ProtectFloridaSeniorsNow.com.
